From PDN: The staff and management of Kontenda’s Gym will celebrate the grand opening of their new facility, starting with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m., Saturday at their new gym in Tamuning behind the ITC building.
The public is invited.
With this new 10,000-square-foot facility, Kontenda’s will offer more fitness options to a larger clientele. The new gym has an expanded weight room, more cardiovascular and boxing equipment, new locker rooms and a juice bar. It also offers an outdoor multi-purpose athletic facility with a basketball court, a baseball batting cage, volleyball and futsal.
“We hope to reach people of all ages and sizes with an emphasis on leading a healthier lifestyle and not just to lose weight,” said owner Brant McCreadie.
McCreadie and his wife, Dina, founded Kontenda’s in 2005. He is a former professional baseball player, boxer and triathlete. He also is the long-time sports anchor at KUAM. His wife, who holds a master’s degree in business administration, manages the gym full time.
Their first fitness endeavor was a women’s self-defense class. Not long thereafter, they opened the gym with one punching bag and no members. The gym now offers instruction in boxing for fitness, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, taekwondo, personal and weight training, as well as basketball, baseball, volleyball and futsal. Kontenda’s also hosts special youth fitness camps during school vacations.
A two-for-one membership special will be offered during the grand opening celebration. Light refreshments will be served.
